The GOP Plan for the Future of Arizona
by Three Sonorans
The stakes have never been higher in the state of Arizona. Unfortunately the Arizona Republican Party has been hijacked by organizations that have a sinister plan for their vision of Arizona.
Mega profits off of public money for the new slavery.
The plan involves 5 key people, 4 of which are up for election this year. Each one plays an important role and has a link with everyone else. I could write an entire thesis on this, but I provide a short summary here for you to consider before the election.
Russell Pearce – The Architect
Russell Pearce is the sponsor of SB1070.
But it was not written by Pearce. It was written by his lawyer, the Kansan Kris Kobach who has ties to the known hate group FAIR.
The plan combines two plots in a sinister way.
You begin with the xenophobia that has taken over the US since 9/11 and George W. Bush. From that attack you loot the public system as much as you can in the name of safety and security, using Muslims as your poster child to really scare all your Christians and Mormons into giving up liberty in exchange for security.
Then you add in the millions of dollars that can be made by detaining these scary brown people in a private prison. The people will not only give up their liberty, but give up their own money to make these private prison corporations rich, and they are only too glad to take that money.
Greed and racism come together in a perfect stew of injustice.
Russell Pearce also comes from a background that magnifies this fear of brown people and that justifies their dehumanization.
His name is Russell Pearce and he is a Mormon. Just like fear-monger Glenn Beck.
I have already written about the roots of racism in the Mormon religion, which calls brown people the “seed of Cain.” Brown people are automatically inferior to their white brethren and it wasn’t until a Civil Rights lawsuit that the Mormon church decided to be a bit more friendly to dark folk.
But a black person will be President of the Mormon Church only after a female become Pope of the Catholic church. Never.
Mormons were also behind the homophobic Proposition 8 in California, and the leader of the SB1070 movement in Arizona is Mormon, and there has been no public outcry from the Mormon followers denouncing SB1070.
Russell Pearce was also behind Arizona’s “birther law,” is the motivating force behind bills targeted at “anchor babies” and wants to repeal the 14th amendment to deny citizenship to US born children.
Russell Pearce works with Sheriff Arpaio and his son hunted Mexicans out in the desert with the Minutemen and neo-Nazi JT Ready, who received Russell Pearce’s endorsement when he ran for office. They have also been seen at neo-Nazi rallies together.
Joe Arpaio – The Enforcer
As the Sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio has become the most famous Sheriff in the United States.
His office is also an elected position, and he wins every time by focusing on the worst crime in the world in his feeble mind.
There are over 70,000 warrants outstanding in Maricopa County, but he goes after the high-profile immigration cases first and foremost. He has formed a posse to go hunting brown people and is regularly seen on TV news proudly busting up a hard-working Mexican trash collector and leaving kids on the side of the street crying for their family members.
Current lawsuits against the MCSO are in the 9 figures, and another regular news item are settlements for 6 figures.
For some reason the right-wing loves gay sexual innuendo. Whether it’s from Rush Limbaugh or a pickup truck with a bumper sticker that says “bend over” or “pull down your pants and bend over” in reference to Obama’s policies, said while Rush Limbaugh enjoys a 9-inch cigar in his mouth, the same is to be found in Arpaio’s “tent city.”
Apparently Fox News and Joe Arpaio get their kicks showing a bunch of buff brown guys in pink underwear, sweat glistening in the 100+ degree heat, helping to pitch a tent in the Arizona desert. Arpaio also thinks feeding them green moldy bologna is fun also.
Arpaio’s budget usually runs in the red, and he continues to refuse to show his own papers, ironically, when the Maricopa Board of Supervisors asks for an accounting of expenses.
He demands to see everyone’s documentation and for them to show him their papers, yet he refuses to do so himself. But this is Arizona 2010, and some people are above the law.
It’s even easier when you are the law enforcer.
Tom Horne – The Consigliere
Tom Horne is the current State Superintendent of Public Instruction and has laid the groundwork for some simply horrific violation of civil rights and basic humanity.
Horne has directly targeted the city of Tucson, the Tucson Unified School District in particular, with his ban of Ethnic Studies.
A few years ago civil- and labor-rights activist Dolores Huerta was speaking at Tucson High School and said “Republicans hate Latinos.”
This news segment went viral, frequently talked about on Fox News and the O’Rielly Factor. Tom Horne had found his mission.
He must have countered that Dolores Huerta was not telling the truth, that the Arizona Republicans don’t hate Latinos, but he would make sure they racially profile and attack them with his legislation and make Huerta’s statement a truth.
At least this seems to have been his reasoning based on his actions.
To make this even more twisted, they got an immigrant from El Salvador to be the primary sponsor of HB2281, the ban on Ethnic Studies. Steve Montenegro makes most of his money off of immigration by being the pastor of a church with many immigrant members, and by working on immigration issues in US Congressman Trent Franks’ office.
I would have listed Steve Montenegro as one of the five, but he is truly powerless and is only a tool of the Republicans. You have met the kind before: “I’m not racist, I know some black people. I love Mexican food.”
Steve Montenegro is their Mexican friend, and it doesn’t matter that he’s from El Salvador. Recently he was kicked out of a El Salvadorian restaurant because his own Central American community in his district have disowned him, including the conservative Hispanic Republican organization.
So while Montenegro was the primary sponsor of HB2281, he was simply doing the dirty work of Tom Horne who could not pass such legislation since he was superintendent.
But what else could Tom Horne do?
He could try to ban teachers with accents to make sure it was racist, and that made national news also. I’m sure to the British every American has an accent, but of course this was also targeted on the Latino community.
What Tom Horne has also done is lay the groundwork for John Huppenthal to take over and continue with the ultimate plan.
John Huppenthal – The Schoolmaster
There are two main ways Huppenthal plays an important role in the GOP plan.
But first, Huppenthal is the state senator that got pwned by a student who was asking him some simple questions in an interview.
Huppenthal gets caught in hypocrisy, by telling the student that an educational program is very important, then the student follows up by pointing out his vote on a bill that cut $550 million from that program.
Three Sonorans was also able to interview John Huppenthal and ask him why he was running ads saying that he will stand strong against “La Raza.”
So why is a non-teacher, a legislator who votes for massive cuts to education, and someone who flat-out runs ads against “La Raza” running to be the top teacher in the state?
Because it has nothing to do with education. It has to do with power and politics.
We already know Huppenthal will not defend education against being cut, and will actually advocate for those spending cuts. We also know that he supports HB2281.
Now enters in an interesting connection you may not know about: SB 1097, also by Russell Pearce.
Arizona’s anti-immigration crackdown is only getting started—and students are increasingly in the state’s sights. Having passed one of the nation’s harshest laws against illegal immigration and a separate law targeting ethnic studies, state legislators could soon take up a new bill that would zero in on illegal immigrant children within the public schools. The Daily Beast’s Dana Goldstein reports:
A new bill would require them to record and report to the state the number of illegal immigrant children in their student population, along with an estimation of the costs associated with educating those children.
If passed, SB 1097 would compel teachers and administrators to determine the legal status of students and their families, almost certainly discouraging enrollment and parental participation at school.
via Mother Jones.
That’s right. Teachers will be doing the job of ICE and turning in their own students to authorities. The article goes on to state how this is already unconstitutional thanks to a Supreme Court case:
In 1982, the Supreme Court ruled in Plyler vs. Doe that illegal immigrant students could not be barred from schools under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. The Court ruled that the law discriminated against children who had no control over their legal status, adding, moreover, that eliminating them from schools would result in “the creation and perpetuation of a subclass of illiterates within our boundaries.”
But since when is passing bills and having policies that are unconstitutional going to stop our GOP legislature? SB1070, HB2281, and next up SB1097.
Jan Brewer – The Puppethead
If you have ever heard Jan Brewer speak, anytime from last year to after SB1070 was signed, you realize she is a lot like George W. Bush.
Except Brewer is a lot less intelligent.
While W got into Yale because of legacy enrollment (affirmative action for the elite and mostly white), Brewer has no college degree.
She is, however, a certified radiological technologist which she got after taking a few classes at the community college. No wonder colleges are suffering in Arizona. Brewer must think college education is over-rated because, hey, she was able to become governor without a degree.
Even Sarah Palin has a degree though…
What’s ironic is how people blame Obama for our economic woes because he should “own the problem” and stop blaming Bush.
Well in Arizona we’ve had a GOP-led legislature forever, and the GOP runs the legislature and the Governor’s office… so if it’s Obama’s fault nationwide, then it’s Brewer’s fault in Arizona by that same reasoning.
Jan Brewer was never supposed to be our governor. She was only elected as Secretary of State and became governor once Janet Napolitano left to become head of Homeland Security. She was down in the polls in the early months until…
… she signed SB1070 into law.
Now she has learned what Arpaio already knew. Who cares about real issues, like those 70,000 warrants and crime. People will keep voting for you if you both instill fear of brown people and then go after them.
Focus on the brown people
Muslim terrorists are really scary, but when people realize it may not be worth the trillions of dollars we have spent, we need a new enemy.
A simple look at the history of the US economy reveals how we became a superpower and it actually has less to do with capitalism and more to do with slavery, theft, and the use of “laws” to justify unethical behavior, but that is very profitable.
The US began with a slave-economy. That’s a perfect business model to become rich off of since you have zero labor costs.
But it requires a massive dehumanization to allow this to take place in what the TEA Party insists is a Christian nation. The same people who wrote all men are created equal could also write that blacks are only 3/5 of a person and not get caught up in the contradiction.
Women can’t vote either.
Slavery is followed by segregation and Manifest Destiny. The Trail of Tears and taking land from Native Americans and the Mexicans. One of the laws in Texas when it was owned by Mexico was actually that no slavery would be allowed, but how can a southerner live without his slaves, so then Texas was taken over.
Then the rest of the West, and that’s how it was won. Asians building your railroads, Mexicans working in the fields and mines, and Jim Crow alive and well in Bible Belt.
When you take over a person’s land and exploit their cheap labor force, you now have a lot of new wealth.
And the same pattern would emerge throughout the more recent history of the US. When the Great Depression hit, Mexicans were deported whether or not they were citizens.
Across the ocean there was a war-ravaged economy and drastic depression, and a young artist wrote a book blaming the economic woes not on the war, but on a group of people that have historically been targeted over and over.
But the war was good for us, and life was good. So good in fact that the Civil Right movement of the 1960s was allowed to take place. There was so much progress that it was decided some could be shared with minorities who were also giving their lives is disproportionate numbers to fight the wars this country engaged in.
An enemy is always needed though, and America had one.
It was the commies, and even that had a way of being anti-Latino with Cuba and the Domino Theory. Iran-Contra, Oliver North, and Reaganomics which solidified our economy as being dependent on defense spending.
But then the Berlin Wall fell, so Islamic terrorism became the new enemy. Saddam Hussein, the Ayatollah, Gaddafi, and bin Laden.
We captured and killed Saddam and became friends with Gaddafi.
In a two-front war the US is already in, there is no way they will get the Ayatollah or win against Iran, and bin Laden is still nowhere to be found.
Our resources are running low now though.
Was there a new threat to national security that could be blamed for everything from the economy to unemployment to drugs and diarrhea?
Mexicans are like Muslims
Let’s see, they are brown and that’s about all you need. Blacks are already Muslims and dangerous in American perception, especially with our Muslim Kenyan President, so now they all get grouped together.
Sprinkle in a little “Muslim terrorists are sneaking across the border” and VOILA! A new target.
Combined with the drug cartel stories, beheadings out in the desert, and fear is instilled in your population.
And we all know that the root of anger is fear. And since there’s not much to fear, we just get angry. But more importantly, when there is a fear, there is huge money to be made.
Enter the GOP plan for Arizona.
The New Slavery
The reason I mention history briefly was to stress that our economy was never sustainable, nor was it ever capitalist. It has always been built on the exploitation of cheap labor and resources.
First the slaves, that theft of land from Native Americans, then having all these minorities slave away in your factories and fields.
Then we got Civil Rights, and that was bad for the economy in that it gave minorities some dignity for once, and some legal rights to defend themselves. So now you have people like Rand Paul who wants to undo the Civil Rights Act… why?
Because of economics.
American economics and slavery go hand in hand, but sometimes it’s easier to talk about free markets and libertarianism rather than government regulations that protect against slavery and inhumane exploitation.
They even want to undo the 14th amendment.
But in the meantime they have a way of making profits. We have already exported many jobs to exploit slave labor in our countries in sweatshops. America isn’t making anything though. So we bring in migrants to pick our fruit, handle our trash, burp our babies, and then serve us our food after picking it.
Did I ever tell you how much I love Mexican food?
In a recession, however, we can’t continue to exploit them in some industries such as construction. But there is still millions to be made off of them.
Simply chain them up and imprison them. Sell them at auction, and this is exactly what Operation Streamline allows for.
There’s not even individual justice anymore, but handled in groups. All you need is about 30 immigrants and a company can make a million dollars a year by jailing them, since it costs over $30,000 to house a prisoner.
I saw twice as many go before a federal judge the other day, and justice was handled in bulk, and even in bulk you only get a minute before the judge with your group. Then you are sent away…
… to the private prisons which will be paid by the government to keep you locked up.
All paid for by the taxpayer.
How to keep prisons full
– Allow migrants to come in here and work for cheap.
– Then when they are here, make it illegal for them to exist here (SB1070)
– Be sure they don’t learn about their history and injustices of the past (HB2281)
– Don’t allow them to go to school (SB1097)
– Cut funding massively (Huppenthal, Pearce and Brewer)
– Don’t cut prison funding!
And now to really keep them full, implement SB1097 next year which really reeks of Germany in the mid-1900s. Go after the children at school to find out where the Jews, I mean the undocumented, are.
Are they hiding out in your house? Your church? Do they clean your house or cut your weeds?
Kids will say the darndest things!
How the GOP plan works
Russell Pearce becomes Senate President next year. He passes SB1097.
Jan Brewer immediately signs it and becomes a rock-star on Fox News and to the TEA Party. Her prison lobbyist friends also love her, and they start construction of more private prisons that will be used to detain the immigrants.
With John Huppenthal as State Superintendent, he will have access to all these student records that already exist, and furthermore reports that the teachers and schools will be compiling on their own students.
Simply pass that report over to Tom Horne as Attorney General. He has the entire power of the state to target these individuals under the name of the law. And he goes after them indeed, with a little help from…
Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Then you fill up the prisons, making the prison corporations happy, and you get more donations and really stoke the racist and xenophobic fears in Arizona.
The citizens either love you since they like seeing brown people in chains making money for their owners, or they hate you and fight you.
Either way, the attention is not on the failing economy, the failing schools, unemployment, etc. Who needs to fight brown people on the other side of the planet when you can do it in your own backyard?
And make a ton of money off the taxpayers at the same time while working against their own interests…
Brilliant isn’t it?
To everyone in Arizona, please vote for Terry Goddard for Governor, Felecia Rotellini for Attorney General, and Penny Kotterman for State Superintendent, and Andrew Sherwood if you live in LD 18 for state senate!
We can prevent the above scenario from happening!
