The more I learn about one of Arizona’s newest US Congressman the more I realize why our state is in the bad state that it is.
TEApublican dentist millionaire Paul Gosar, of CD1 which stretches from the Four Corners to Flagstaff, to Eloy and Oracle and all the way over to Safford and Clifton/Morenci, making it the largest district in the entire country that is not a state (such as Wyoming which has only one district), has now become the forest fire expert.
Gosar was only too Eagar (pun intended) to get tons of help from the evil socialist federal government run by Obamarx himself for our state, seeing no contradiction as he held out his hand for free federal aid.
Now the dentist is blaming environmentalists for Mother Nature’s raging hot flash this summer in Arizona.
Republican Congressman Paul Gosar, asked to testify by state Rep. Brenda Barton, R-Safford, who chairs the special committee, said the state’s commercial timber industry needs to be resurrected to deal with thousands of acres of “badly overgrown” forests.
“But bureaucratic red tape, preventing the private sector from participating in the stewardship of our public lands, combined with the excessive litigation initiated by some extreme environmental groups, resulted in the loss of Arizona’s timber industry and the jobs provided by the responsible management of our natural resources,” he said.
Gosar said he is pushing for changes to federal law to cap the legal fees that environmental groups can collect when they successfully sue the government for violating environmental regulations.
Interesting how the “illegal is illegal” right-wing always bends over backwards for corporations. For example, the last sentence above says “violating environmental regulations” — do the crime do the time, if you are an immigrant, but if you got money, then Paul Gosar wants to limit how much you get fined because that makes sense somehow?
You may also remember Paul Gosar has the person who recently called the EPA a radical dictatorship.
It is not environmentalist’s fault for nature being nature. What are they, super-humans that fly around with lasers shooting from their eyes and starting fires everywhere? I would not be surprised if Paul Gosar thinks these evil environmentalists are Mexican immigrants also.

Forest fires are natural and occur every year. If you want to blame nature lovers for not wanting all the trees chopped down by logging corporations and destroying habitats for profits, and want to blame them for fires getting worse without even mentioning the effects of climate change once, then you are just being a hypocrite.
It’s getting hotter in Arizona, and it is also getting drier as we pump more and more water from our ground and climate change is impacting snow patterns in the Rocky Mountains, the source of most of our water which is the Colorado River system. We are also using more oil than ever. This is also leading to worse hurricanes, but somehow oil spills into the Yellowstone River, or mountaintops being cut off, or coral reefs disappearing, all as a result of corporations that care first about profits over people or nature, don’t even get a mention by Gosar.
Remember Gosar’s fiery speech against Exxon or BP for their oil spills? Neither do I.
Paul Gosar also reminds me of those that attack the Ethnic Studies program in TUSD, such as Tom Horne, John Huppenthal or Jon Justice, when he mentions “extreme” groups. Name names and name what actions they did that directly led to forest fires being their fault.
Luckily my own state legislator from LD28, Bruce Wheeler, was able to call out Paul Gosar on his nonsense.
“With all due respect to the congressman, however, to come here and hear attacks against certain interests without having any backup, to me is counterproductive to what we’re trying to do,” he said.
“To say ‘extremist environmental groups,’ excuse me, but I have no idea of what you’re talking about or who you’re talking about,” Wheeler continued. “All I’m asking is that the rhetoric and the politics stay out of this committee.”
The TEApublicans are going crazy with all their accusations of everyone from environmental groups to students just trying to get educated, but made into an enemy with the name La Raza, but they are unable to provide any evidence of their accusations.
When a water supply or river gets polluted after a mining company starts operation, the evil environmentalists are able to provide names and data when they make accusations, rather than blaming an abstract evil corporation. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Congressman from Arizona was able to do the same, provide evidence and not make blanket accusations at abstract entities that may not exist except only in his mind?
When property burns in a natural forest fire is that the environmentalist’s fault or a chance someone building a cabin in the forest takes? Likewise, if you build a ranch on an international border between the world’s richest nation and a drug-cartel ravaged nation with poverty and hunger, do you really think no one will walk across that land in search of a better life just because of what ink on a piece of paper says?
We need real solutions, not political rhetoric and ideology to solve the very real problems Arizona is confronting today.
Luckily CD1 does has a solution available with a true progressive Democrat who is running for US Congress. Harvard-educated Navajo Wenona Benally Baldenegro is smart enough to use her intelligence to solve problems, rather than spread ignorance as the current and previous US Congresspersons from CD1.
