Steve Gallardo asks Civil Rights Division to come to Arizona to protect minorities

cropped-TSON.jpg

Thank you Senator Steve Gallardo for inviting the Civil Rights Division to Arizona to enforce the Voting Rights Act. Sen. Steve Gallardo is asking the U.S. Department of Justice to intervene to protect minority voting rights and prevent the removal of Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission members. In a letter on Monday, Gallardo, D-Phoenix, asked DOJ to inform Gov. Jan Brewer, Senate President Russell Pearce and House Speaker Andy Tobin that the removal of any commissioners would require preclearance by the department. If they engage in “any further attempts to disrupt the redistricting process,” Gallardo said DOJ should draw Arizona’s new […]

Democracy Failure in Arizona: Attack on Ethnic Studies, court case wraps up

cropped-TSON.jpg

Professor Roberto Rodriguez responds to the testimony from the state of Arizona’s “expert witnesses,” such as right-wing University of Arkansas professor Sandra Stotsky, against the Mexican American Studies program in Tucson. Also included in the testimony was that by economics professor Mark Stegeman, who testified that MAS classes are cults, but that’s what you get when you bring an economics professor in to speak about Critical Race Theory and Ethnic Studies that they know nothing about. Was it the TEA Party that made fliers about shooting cops at #OccupyPhoenix?

cropped-TSON.jpg

[tnivideo caption=”Neo-nazi JT Ready armed at Occupy Phoenix.” credit=””]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkE3GnsLF0w The right-wing media, from Jon Justice to the Jon Justice-praising Arizona Daily Independent, are making a fuss about a stack of fliers found at the OccupyPhoenix about when it is OK to shoot cops. I don’t know if they realize that TEA Party and libertarians are out there also, and they may be blaming their own listeners/readers. We know that TEA Party protesters sometimes bring guns to their rallies, for example people like known neo-Nazi JT Ready who attends immigration rallies with loaded guns and with huge knives, and we know […]

The Simpson’s prophecy comes true: Vision of the future comes from third eye?

cropped-TSON.jpg

As the Simpsons prepare for more seasons in the making (remember they had the audacity to go up against the Cosby Show on Thursday nights when they first began), another one of their joking-but-serious social commentaries has come true. Meet the real-life Blinky, the three-eyed fish caught outside a nuclear plant. Locals had been concerned about the hot water being pumped into the Cordoba province reservoir by the nearby nuclear facility now that concerned has turned into a panic. A group of fisherman caught a wolf fish that happened to have a third eye. This type of fish that is […]

New report: American dream becoming more of a nightmare for the poor

cropped-TSON.jpg

Q: The U.S. ranks 27 out of 31 in your Social Justice Index, clustered around countries like Turkey and Slovakia. If we have the biggest economy in the world, why are we so low in this index? A: Social justice does not depend solely on a nation’s wealth or its economic prosperity. Social justice is about creating equal opportunities for every individual. No person is a self-made millionaire… or billionaire. If they became rich off of some factory they ran, they still depended on others for labor, they depended on the government to build the roads and infrastructure, educate the […]

McRib is back! McDonald’s war on America’s health for profit

cropped-TSON.jpg

It’s that time again. Just like chicken does not have “nuggets” but is rather a highly processed pink goo ground up parts, McDonald’s is bringing back the mythical “McRib” which is a mix of ground up pig bits like tripe, heart, and scalded stomach, and tons of salt which is then it is molded like Play-Doh to look like a rack of ribs, but of course the main taste probably comes from the BBQ sauce. In my opinion, the McRib should be considered a public health hazard, but with a little bit of clever marketing, people will actually put this […]
