AZ Daily Star covers Hicks-Stegeman vote to restrict public input at TUSD meetings

The Arizona Daily Star includes the gem of quote from TUSD board member Michael Hicks who apparently does not understand the concept of Public Meetings and that board members are elected officials whose boss are the citizens, aka the Public.

Hicks and Stegeman both stand out during this vote on public input at TUSD board meetings.

Grijalva requested the item, saying it would provide another opportunity for the public to speak.

Board member Miguel Cuevas added that doing so would make the board more accessible.

Board President Mark Stegeman and board member Michael Hicks voted against the proposal, which allots 20 minutes to the public to speak on any topic.

“This is a meeting of the board to do board business, not a meeting of the public,” Hicks said in voting against the item.
