Trump just had the most revolting exchange with a black reporter during a disaster press conference

Syndicated from post here.

President Trump just asked an African-American reporter to set up a meeting between him and the Congressional Black Caucus, apparently assuming that her skin color meant she had personal friendships with the CBC.

April Ryan, a journalist with the American Urban Radio Networks, asked Trump “Are you going to include the CBC, Mr. President, in your conversations with your urban agenda, your inner-city agenda, as well as-”

“Am I going to include who?” Trump said.

“Are you going to include the Congressional Black Caucus-”

“Well, I would,” Trump said. “I’ll tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting? Do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours? Set up the meeting!”

A video of the bizarrely terse exchange can be found here:

The CBC has since responded to the incident, expressing surprise at Trump’s sudden willingness to meet with them, since he did not respond to a five page letter they sent to him on the eve of his presidency.

The 5-page letter, which can be read here, expressed concern about Trump’s “insistence on reducing the African-American experience solely to the conditions faced by many in our inner cities,” calling this rhetoric “ultimately unproductive.” The letter then outlines ten ideas for how Trump could help the African-American community.

This strange encounter between Trump and Ryan was one of many combative moments from the president during the hour-long press conference. Other strange moments included his (false) claim that his electoral college victory was the largest win since Ronald Reagan’s election, telling a Jewish reporter to “sit down” for asking an “unfair question” about the rising number of anti-semitic hate crimes committed during his tenure, and the befuddling declaration that the multiple leaks coming out of his administration are real, but the news outlets reporting on the leaks are fake.
