Betsy DeVos criticized teachers at a school she visited. Their response is PRICELESS.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who has no experience in public schools, criticized teachers at a public school she visited. The teachers didn’t let that pass.

After visiting Jefferson Academy (where she was initially chased out by protesters), DeVos commented to right-wing blog Townhall that the faculty there seemed to be in “receive mode.”

“They’re waiting to be told what they have to do, and that’s not going to bring success to an individual child,” DeVos said. “You have to have teachers who are empowered to facilitate great teaching.”

Jefferson Academy’s educators didn’t agree with DeVos’ analysis of their teaching methods, and neither did other public school officials in the Washington, DC community. The school’s official Twitter account shot down DeVos’ allegations in a devastating 11-tweet thread and defended their faculty as top-of-the-line educators.

In addition to the school itself, others weighed in on DeVos’ comments and made a point to defend Jefferson Academy’s teachers as hard-working and successful in their field. The official DC Public Schools Twitter account posted a statement from Chancellor Antwan Wilson that read, “The teaching and learning at Jefferson will put our students on a path to college successful careers, and beyond. I see that. Our teachers see that. Our students see that. And our parents see that.”
