Zach Braff proposes Alec Baldwin fill in for Trump at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Since Donald Trump is refusing to take part in the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, one actor wants Alec Baldwin to host the event as Trump.

On Saturday evening, Trump tweeted that wouldn’t be taking part in the annual tradition that involves the President of the United States laughing at jokes told at his expense, while telling jokes of his own in front of the White House Press Corps. No president has skipped the annual correspondents’ dinner in three decades.

Zach Braff came up with a brilliant idea. The Scrubs actor tweeted his hopes that Baldwin would bring his legendary SNL impersonation of Trump to the stage.

Baldwin’s unflattering impression of President Trump on Saturday Night Live has earned him legendary status, and Trump has himself tweeted his lack of amusement at Baldwin’s portrayal of the reality TV show host-turned-president, saying Baldwin’s performance “stinks.”

The White House snub of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner comes shortly after both Trump and his top advisor, Steve Bannon, viciously attacked the media at the Conservative Political Action Conference this week. Throughout his speech, Bannon referred to the news media as “the opposition,” encouraging the audience to not trust one word they read or hear from prestigious media outlets that have provided unflattering coverage of the Trump administration.

As of this writing, Alec Baldwin has not yet responded to Zach Braff’s tweet. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is scheduled for April 29.
