TUSD vote on MAS today is premature

XITO is a collective that consists of former MAS teachers that was created after TUSD banned Mexican American Studies. All of these teachers were involved in the federal lawsuit to save ethnic studies in Arizona.

XITO statement on TUSD’s board agenda this evening:

Our collective feels that any discussion by the TUSD Governing Board in regard to Mexican American Studies is premature.

Out of respect and deference for the plaintiffs, witnesses, and former students and teachers of MAS who were actively involved in the seven year legal battle, we believe Judge Tashima should be given the opportunity to announce his remedies before any action is taken.

  1. Did xito, discuss their concern with the board prior to this item being placed on the agenda? or as soon as the item was made public? Who placed it on the agenda and with what end goal in mind? On the surface it seems like communication lines are not very clear. Hope both sides talk to each other so as not to lose that which has been gained.

    • The board has not talked to XITO nor the Plaintiffs. Taking a bite before Tashima issues his remedies later this month is premature
